Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, mini review.

Dear Reader,

We need to talk. Now I didn't get nearly enough notes down whilst reading this book, so I can't do the thought bank review I wanted to do. None the less, I needed to write something about what I, or hopefully we (this will contain spoilers) just went through. First off, GOD do I love these authors. How do they do it? Every single book they write, individually or together, is my new favourite, every crew of characters they write, my new inner circle. Every series are just full of insanely original ideas yet always carries the same brilliant friendships and relationships between such lovable characters. This book? No exception.

This book is my baby.

I loved learning more about Kal and his past and oh my lord his and Auroras chemistry was off the charts. It was so beautiful, I haven't swooned for a pair like that in many months. I really didn't like how this ended for them, I thought this book was going to end with them getting engaged or something not breaking up and being on opposing teams!

Watching Auri get a grip of her power in this book was deeply satisfying, I think we were all getting a little bored of the words 'I just can't' whenever anyone asked Auri for help.

I listened to the audiobook for this book and dear god was Auri's voice the most annoying thing I have ever heard. It genuinely made me like her as a character a little less because of just how winey she was. Still, her self development in this book was something I could be proud of.

We heard a lot more from Zila in this book which I was thrilled about because God I love Zila. Her background story we learnt about in this book was heartbreaking and reading about her becoming more emotionally healthy was so beautiful. She's actually a really complex character, besides what we were made to believe in Aurora Rising. She's one of my new favourite Amie and Jay characters and for that, I choose to do a little Zila inspired photoshoot which was a lot of fun. I'm annoyed I forgot to include my Zila pin which is such a great pin, I got it in a fairy loot box about 4 months ago and it's still one of my favourite items from them.

Tyler and Kal's sister's dialogue and scenes together were hilarious, I ship them even if she is sort of insane. There was a second where I thought Ty was actually going to go with Cat and I was sat there in the park inwardly SCREAMING at him. Don't be a dumb ass Ty, don't be a dumb ass. The idea of Kals dad being a previous trigger was really interesting and unexpected, I loved the idea of previous and future triggers and how they used the weapon as a way to wield power. Finnian gave us so many laugh out loud moments in this book, his chapters and Zila's were my favourites to read from, he provides with the best type of comedic relief, the kind that holds out even in moments of certain doom.

Finnian and Scarlett, when am I going to see them together? When?! I shipped their similar snarkiness since day one and I need to see this before they all die. The cliff hanger we got swung over and left on was not okay. NOT COOL GUYS. It's one of those brilliant cliff hangers that if you zoom out for the one action scene, you can see the bigger picture of this struggle our characters face, making new enemies along the way.

My face after finishing this book.

I like that we learn more about the unbroken in this second instalment. Their cause and their involvement with Ty and Scar's Dad. It's a long history of conflict that we now see is just another consequence of this larger threat. Yes, I do keep referring to it as 'bigger picture' and 'larger threat' because I forgot what it's called. The thing with the flower pupil eyes on Octavia 3, you know what I mean.

It's hard to talk much about this book because it was left in a place where so much is left in the air, and so many places the story could still go. All I know is I'd follow these characters anywhere and know whatever we get in the next book will be just as fantastic and just as fun. I can not wait to see where exactly Amie and Jay take us next.

I'm currently reading Fable by Adrienne young and A song of wraith and ruin by Roseanne A. Brown, which is brilliant, let me know what you guys are reading.

Until next time,

Issy
